How to Get Hunter Education Certified in Illinois
Illinois requires all first-time hunters to complete an approved hunter education course. The state offers online-only certification for adults 18 and older, while youth hunters must attend an in-person field day.
Certification Paths
- Ages 18+: Complete the entire course online with a virtual field day component. No in-person attendance required.
- Under 18: Complete the online course, then attend a 6-8 hour in-person field day with hands-on firearm handling and practical exercises.
The course is approved by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and certified by IHEA-USA.
