March 14, 2026

Ohio offers a streamlined path to hunter education certification. Hunters age 17 and older can complete a 3-hour online-only course approved by the Ohio Division of Wildlife (ODW). Younger hunters ages 12-16 may need to attend a field day depending on their course provider.

Certification Options

  • Ages 17+: Complete the full course online (approximately 3 hours). No field day required.
  • Ages 12-16: Complete the online portion, then check with your provider about field day requirements
  • Minimum age: 12 years old

Hunting in Ohio

Ohio has become one of the top trophy white-tailed deer states in the nation. The state also offers wild turkey, waterfowl, and small game hunting. Your IHEA-approved certificate is valid in all other states.
