How to Get Hunter Education Certified in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is one of the most popular hunting states in the country, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) requires hunter education for all first-time hunters. The good news: Pennsylvania offers flexible certification paths based on your age.
Ages 16 and Older: Online-Only Course
Hunters age 16+ can complete the entire course online with no field day required. The course takes approximately 3 hours and requires an 80% passing score on the final exam. Upon passing, your certificate is issued immediately.
Ages 11-15: Interactive Course
Youth hunters ages 11-15 complete the PGC's interactive "ilearntohunt" course, which replaces the traditional field day format. This is an engaging, interactive program designed specifically for younger hunters.
Cost and Hunting Opportunities
Pennsylvania offers over 4 million acres of public hunting land, with excellent white-tailed deer, black bear, wild turkey, and small game hunting. Your IHEA-approved certificate is valid nationwide.
